An Uber driver speeding over double the limit on the Granville Street Bridge in Vancouver was slapped with a hefty fine and a week-long vehicle impound.
Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit Sgt. Mark Christensen took to Twitter Wednesday (July 28) morning to share an image of the vehicle attached to a tow truck with police officers sporting neon vestsAn Uber driver speeding over double the limit on the Granville Street Bridge in Vancouver standing in the distance.
Christensen wrote that the driver was clocked going 75 km/hr in a 30 zone on the Granville Street Bridge. As such, he quipped that the driver could "expect a hefty fine."
The driver was issued a $368 fine for speeding as well as a seven-day vehicle impound. However, the VPD officer added the Uber driver would be issued an additional $288 fine for having no vehicle identifiers on their car.

BC RCMP Traffic Services says fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions due to distracted driving are completely preventable.
According to provincial data, distracted driving is responsible for more than 25 per cent of all car crash fatalities and is the second leading cause of fatal collisions in B.C. Every year, an average of 76 people die in fatal motor vehicle collisions in BC because the driver was distracted or not paying attention.
Distracted driving is more than electronic devices being used; other reasons for the citation include personal grooming, eating/drinking, reading, pets, other passengers, and not knowing your route.
