Why does this sign at the Vancouver airport have googly eyes?

What are you looking at?

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has a sign that confused a recent traveller -- especially because it was decorated with some silly eyes.

EA Sports commentator Rafael ‘DiA’ Ruiz shared a pair of pictures on Twitter of a sign that shows lips with a hand making a "shh" sign. A pair of googly eyes has also been stuck above the lips and there is an arrow pointing away from the area.

"I'm sorry but what does this sign mean?" the confused traveller wrote.

YVR responded in a retweet, stating that the sign means there is "a designated quiet area on Level 4 for those who need it."

Spokesperson Megan Sutton told V.I.A. that the airport did not put the googly eyes on the sign and they have since been removed.

While it made a "fun online moment," YVR discourages travellers from interfering with its signs in case they interfere with "wayfinding throughout the terminal," she said.

Ruiz praised the "lovely" international terminal and its quiet space, noting that the airports's clarification was appreciated.
