Vancouver police say they have arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a bus driver and a police officer.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said an officer was patrolling the Downtown Eastside near Hastings and Carrall streets on Wednesday, Oct. 4 just after 8 p.m. when he initiated the arrest of a suspect who had allgedly punched a bus driver in the face.

The officer claims that rather than cooperating, the suspect punched him in the face.

The suspect was ultimately handcuffed and taken into police custody.

While the bus driver didn’t sustain any "obvious injuries," they were "checked by paramedics and taken to hospital for other non-life-threatening injuries," VPD Const. Tania Visintin told V.I.A.

Since a police investigation is ongoing, TransLink couldn't comment on the specific incident. However, a spokesperson said that the transportation authority takes assaults on its operators seriously and that "any assault on an employee is one too many and will not be tolerated."
