Ashbridge or "Ash" worked in newsrooms across the province and started with CKNW in 1965 before his career as a PA for the Canucks.
He was the PA announcer for the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, the 2010 Winter Olympic Games at Canada Hockey Place and lent his voice to the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League until recently.
To so many, he was the “voice” of hockey in Vancouver. A remarkable man who was loved and respected by everyone he interacted with. We are beyond grateful to have had John represent the Giants and the great game of hockey. Our sincere condolences to his family. Thank you John. pic.twitter.com/4NpVdIg830

Ash was the best. You won’t find anyone who worked with or for him with a bad word to say. Big talent, little ego. A radio giant who led by example and mentored so many of us. Thoughts are with Yvonne and his many great friends tonight. https://t.co/oDD9YO0Mue

Met #JohnAshbridge for the first time last year. He was sharing a hospital room with my Dad who was waiting to have heart surgery. John introduced himself, then gave us a powerful pep talk that all would be OK. A legendary voice, soul and spirit. You will be missed. #RIP
