Firefighters are tackling another two alarm fire in Vancouver.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to a blaze in a single story building in the 500 block of East Hastings Street around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (March 25), just several hours after dousing a morning fire on East Broadway.
The building on fire is next door to the St Francis Hotel.
"When crews arrived on scene, there were flames coming out the front door," says VFRS assistant chief of operations Brad Hesse. "There was a report of an explosion, but we have no idea what the cause was at this time."
The fire was "heavily involved" by the time firefighters arrived on scene.
Hesse tells V.I.A. as of 3:35 p.m. that the flames started in the room and are now deeply seated in the roof. He adds that the flames caused "very extensive damage to the full building."
Around 40 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze.
Hastings Street is currently closed off between Jackson and Princess streets in both directions.
