Vancouver police experts destroyed a grenade May 12 after it was found by a gardener.

There was plenty of police activity in Olympic Village on Sunday, May 12, after an unusual call.

A gardener there found a grenade, according to the VPD.

"A woman digging in a small garden near Hinge Park unearthed an old grenade this morning," Sgt. Steve Addison tells VIA in an email. "It’s currently unclear how long the grenade had been there, or who put it there."

Explosives experts were brought in and deemed the grenade appeared to be active, Addison notes.

"Explosives technicians from our Emergency Response Team analyzed the grenade to determine if it was active, then rendered it inert by using a small explosive charge," Addison tells V.I.A.

Addison notes an investigation is ongoing.

On social media locals reported seeing lots of police and police tape and hearing a loud bang when the grenade was destroyed.
