While high-fiving everyone on the planet may seem like a crazy goal, it certainly doesn't seem so unattainable for one positive, high-energy Vancouverite.
Jamie Gill loves high-fives. In fact, he enjoys them so much that he hasn't noticed just how many high-fives he gives out on a regular basis until his girlfriend pointed it out. That's when he got the idea to spread the positivity around the globe.
"I'm probably high-fiving about 10 to 15 people [regularly]," he tells V.I.A. Now on day 21 of his mission to high-five (almost) every person on the planet, Gill has high-fived over 700 people. At this rate, eight billion high-fives should be a breeze.
The Vancouverite plans to travel the world to fulfill his goal once he's high-fived all of Vancouver.
But why high-fives? Gill describes these brief hand-to-hand interactions as a "little bolt of energy."
"I've always had an overabundance of energy and positivity," he shares. "In Vancouver people can get caught in their own bubbles and I can see their bubble pop when I give them these high fives. It's kind of like bringing them back to life...It makes me really happy."
Not everyone reciprocates Gill's high-five enthusiasm but that's all right with him. So far, folks have either been surprised or really happy, he notes.
