What will Vancouver's community centres look like in the future?
The second phase of the Community Centres Survey is open to the public, with the goal of collecting ideas and helping city staff focus on what people want from the city's community centres in the future from a broad perspective.
"In our current Skateboard Amenities Strategy we heard from many of you that you'd like more amenities and programs improved at our community centres," says an email from the city's CitySkate team. "Here is your opportunity to have a say in what happens next."
The survey is part of a strategic plan aimed at positioning community centres for the future, planning renewal projects and making sure future projects are efficient.
"Community centres are generally jointly operated by Park Board and Community Centre Associations, and typically include amenities like gymnasiums, childcare, and program spaces," explains the city on its website. They may contain other facilities like pools, skateparks and sports fields.
The first round of public engagement finished up in September of 2021. The current survey started Jan. 19 and runs until Wednesday, Feb. 2.
Results will influence staff as they prepare the strategy and policy recommendations that'll be presented to the parks board in the late spring.
