Vancouver police close traffic to part of Yaletown due to drive-by shooting

An area of Hamilton Street from Helmcken Street has been cordoned off.

Vancouver police have cordoned off an area in the Yaletown neighbourhood and are on scene investigating a drive-by shooting on Wednesday, July 10.

Vancouverite Chris Breikiss asked, "What happened at Isabelle’s Yaletown last night?" in a post on X, formerly Twitter, just before 9 a.m., adding "The old New Oxford on Hamilton St. is shut down with police presence."

V.I.A. was on scene where the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) had cordoned off an area on Hamilton Street from Helmcken Street. Additional police tape blocked pedestrians from walking in front of the building housing the restaurants Isabelle's and Brix and Mortar.

Vancouver Police Department (VPD) Const. Tania Visintin told V.I.A. a business in Yaletown was the target of a drive-by shooting early Wednesday morning.

"The business was closed at the time of the shooting, and so as of now, there are no known injuries to anyone," she said.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and the suspect(s) is/are outstanding. An investigation remains ongoing.
