Vancouver Police are reminding drivers to exercise care and keep their eyes on the road after an officer was struck while working on a campaign.
Last month, a Vancouver Police Constable was struck while pulled over on the side of a road. Dashcam footage shows a vehicle driving up ahead and drifting to the right. From there, it drifts right into the shoulder of the road and strikes the police car from behind with force.
Ironically, the police constable was working on a distracted driving campaign when he was hit from behind by the distracted driver. The VPD tweeted about the incident, noting that the force is, "dedicated to increasing #roadsafety with targeted enforcement of unsafe driving behavior."

Fines for excessive speeding, impaired driving and distracted driving increased by 20 per cent effective Nov. 1, 2018. Currently, distracted drivers face a steep fines of $368 along with four driver penalty points. However, the costs rise with each additional offence.
In fact, back in March, the VPD tweeted an image of a distracted driving culprit who received two fines that were six minutes apart. The first first penalty was recorded at 9:49 a.m. and the second was recorded at 9:55 a.m.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure recently announced that winter tires and chains are required on most routes in B.C. effective Oct. 1. Drivers are responsible for ensuring that their vehicles are properly equipped for the terrain. If they fail to do so, they may be subject to a fine.
