Thousands of BC Hydro customers are in the dark following a collision.

***Update as of Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.: Power was restored to the area following the accident. BC Hydro did not provide further details.

A motor vehicle accident has caused a power outage affecting nearly 3,000 BC Hydro customers in Vancouver.

Just after 3 p.m. on Friday, BC Hydro notified its customers on X, formerly Twitter, that it was dispatching crews to an outage affecting 2,953 customers in part of the Fairview neighbourhood.

Power has been off in the area north of King Edward Avenue, east of Arbutus Street, west of Laurel Street, and south of 6th Avenue since 2:49 p.m., according to the outage map (see slide two).

Several storms rolling through Metro Vancouver this weekend could cause more power outages due to heavy rain and strong winds.
