Vancouver resident Katherine Mundy won big with a BC Lottery Set for Life scratch-and-win ticket that was a Christmas gift.

One Vancouver resident got a very welcome, albeit surprising, Christmas gift.

Katherine Mundy is the latest winner of the top prize on a Set for Life scratch-and-win ticket, getting $675,000.

“It was a gift from my dad,” says Mundy in a BC Lottery Corporation press release.

“I took the tickets back home and was sitting with my dog in my lap and decided to scratch them. The Set for Life ticket was the last ticket I scratched, and I was shocked when I saw I won.”

She describes the win as "surreal."

“At first, [my husband] didn’t believe me! We were both so excited. I also shared the news with my dad, and he was very happy – so happy!” she says.

The win means a trip to New York City for Mundy.

The winning ticket was bought at the News Room in Kerrisdale.
