Students at Vancouver's Lord Byng Secondary School in West Point Grey travelled to Spain for the Golden VoIces of Montserrat.

The Lord Byng Senior Chamber Choir spent early April in Spain's Costa Brava region competing with dozens of groups in the annual international choral competition.

After it was all said and done, the choir from the West Point Grey high school won the Grand Prix at the Golden Voices––the first Canadian team to do so.

"It was also the first time in 40 years that Canada entered the competition, making the choir’s grand prize win a truly historic moment," reads a news release from the Vancouver School Board.

The group of high school students spent months preparing for the competition, learning songs in different languages and dance moves for their performance.

They performed at the gala a few days ago.

The Lord Byng choral program was launched in 2009 and quickly gained acclaim, winning a gold in Seattle the next year. School choir groups from Lord Byng have gone on to sing in New York, Paris, Belgium, and more.
