Vancouverites can spot several celestial spectacles this month.
A Super Sturgeon Moon hung over the city last night (Aug. 1), and many locals shared snaps of the bright Supermoon on social media.
A supermoon refers to a full moon that looks roughly 15 per cent brighter and seven per cent bigger than a regular one due to its proximity to Earth.
When is the next Supermoon in Vancouver?
Another special lunar sighting will take place at the end of the month when a Super Blue Moon will illuminate the skies on Aug. 30.
This planetary event is rare as it is both a Supermoon and a Blue Moon.
The last Super Blue Moon occurred in December, 2009. The next one will be in nine years, in August, 2032, according to timeanddate.com.
