Yesterday, the Vancouver weather forecast called for a chance of snow or rain on Friday, Dec. 7.
Now, a special weather statement has been issued for Metro Vancouver and the North Shore that calls for chance of wet snow and risk of freezing rain on Friday night and early Saturday.
According to Environment Canada, the ridge of high pressure that,"gave the south coast a cool, sunny stretch of weather this week is starting to retreat. A weak Pacific weather system will reach the south coast tonight."
As such, cloud cover and winds are expected to increase during the afternoon and keep temperatures above zero degrees.
In advance of this system, cloud cover and winds will increase during Friday afternoon and keep surface temperatures above zero degrees overnight.
With a layer of relatively warmer air above the surface, a scenario of rain mixed with some wet snow is the likely outcome for most of Metro Vancouver. As a result, the forecast calls for little to no snowfall accumulation.
Over inland sections of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley that are sheltered from outflow winds, temperatures could drop below zero tonight resulting in pockets of freezing rain.

On Friday, Nov. 30, a freak storm passed through Metro Vancouver late in the morning and caused a number of commuter delays. Following the storm, however, the rest of the weekend was sunny and dry.
The Weather Network has also released its B.C. winter forecast and it may come as a shock to some. In fact, it is looking decidedly mild overall. The Lower Mainland is expected to see fewer episodes of Arctic air as well as fewer threats of significant snow.
