Spring sunshine is expected in Metro Vancouver during this first week of May, as temperatures could warm up as high as 23 C inland mid-week before rain returns.

Over a dozen temperature records were broken in B.C. over the weekend as locals enjoyed the year's first stretch of hot, summery weather.

But the vacation-like temperatures disappeared by Sunday, April 30, replaced with gloomy, overcast skies and brief periods of light drizzle.

On Monday, Environment Canada called for a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, although temperatures might climb as high as 18 C inland. On the coast, the daytime high was expected to reach 14 C with some light wind gusting.

There is a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight, as temperatures dip down to a low of 9 C.

Tuesday's forecast calls for bright sunshine and a high of 17 C on the coast with temperatures soaring up to 23 C inland. The overnight low is also expected to be in the double-digits, with temperatures expected to dip down to 13 C.

Similarly, Wednesday is expected to see highs of 18 C on the coast and another toasty 23 C inland. Temperatures are expected to cool off significantly overnight, dropping below the double-digit mark to 9 C.

The sunshine isn't expected to continue after the mid-week point, as Thursday's forecast includes cloudy periods throughout the day with a high of 14 C. Periods of rain are also expected to commence Friday, with cloudy but dry periods expected overnight.

So far, the weekend forecast offers the potential for more dreary, wet weather but precipitation is difficult to forecast several days in advance.
