The Metro Vancouver weather forecast calls for plenty of warm but wet weather in January 2023. Find out the full winter forecast from Environment Canada.

Vancouverties may be paying closer attention to the weather forecast heading into the new year.

In the wake of two winter storms that wreaked havoc on local and international transportation networks, the milder temperatures in the Lower Mainland have offered a welcome respite from the piercing cold weather.

But locals shouldn't expect to get a sun tan anytime soon -- and not because of the cooler temperatures.

Environment Canada calls for a return to "regularly scheduled programming" in Metro Vancouver heading into the new year. While there won't be relentless rain throughout the week, locals should keep their umbrellas and raincoats handy.

Starting overnight on Tuesday (Jan. 3), the forecast includes a 60 per cent chance of showers and a low of 3 C. Following this, Wednesday offers the only chance this week to spot some golden goodness, with a mix of sun and cloud expected during the day and a high of 7 C.

The dry weather isn't forecasted to continue through the night, however. Periods of rain are expected overnight with a low of 4 C.

Thursday is looking cloudy during the day, albeit dry, with a high of 8 C and rain overnight. The wet weather is expected to continue through Friday, with showers expected during the day and the first double-digit high of the week.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be wet, with a chance of more wet weather heading into next week.
