Kayla Kelly, who the VPD warned about in December 2023, was arrested again Feb. 2, 2024.

A woman facing multiple charges, including two separate counts of assault, was arrested on Feb. 2, less than two months after the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) issued a warning concerning her.

Kayla Kelly, 29, is in police custody according to a post on social media from the VPD.

"She’s accused of using a lighter to trigger the sprinkler system in a rooming house in the Downtown Eastside last Friday (Feb. 2)," states the VPD.

She was arrested a short time later after fleeing police.

On Dec. 21, 2023, police issued a warning about Kelly, calling her "a significant public safety risk."

“Kelly’s behaviour has been escalating and she’s the suspect in multiple recent violent incidents,” Const. Jason Doucette said in a statement released at the time. “Despite the efforts of the VPD and our partner agencies, she remains in the community and her unpredictable behaviour puts the public at risk.”

Since that time it appears she's been charged with at least one count of breaching conditions imposed by the court due to her ongoing criminal cases.

According to the VPD, she remains in custody as of Feb. 5.

V.I.A. has requested more details about the case and will update the story when the VPD provides more information.
