AM 730, Vancouver's only all-traffic radio station, stopped broadcasting on June 26, 2024. Currently, it is airing the same content as sibling station CKNW 980.

Commuters might notice one fewer radio station on the air; Vancouver's only all traffic radio station has closed.

AM 730 Traffic went off the air on Wednesday, June 26, without any notice. Posts on social media suggest its broadcasts ended around 10 a.m. Currently, 730 AM is playing the same broadcast as its sibling station CKNW 980 AM.

The radio station's website redirects to CKNW's page on the Global News website and its Twitter account was active until 7:40 a.m. when it quote-tweeted a previous tweet about a crash.

"Gone!" reads the last tweet.

Owned by Toronto-based Corus Entertainment, AM730 Traffic had been Mojo Radio previously which focused on sports until a format flip in May 2006.

Corus says the choice to close AM730 Traffic was part of an "efficiency review."

"We have made the difficult decision to reduce our AM radio programming in Vancouver and Edmonton," states Corus spokesperson Cathy Paine in an email to V.I.A. "As a result, certain roles have been impacted. Effective immediately, AM 730 CKGO in Vancouver will cease to operate as an all-traffic station, and 880 CHQT-AM Edmonton will cease to operate as an all-news station."

The plan for 730 and 980 AM to share broadcasts is an interim one, Paine adds.

"Following that interim period, Corus will only operate one AM news-talk station in each of Vancouver and Edmonton," she writes.
