Ah, the summer of '22 in Vancouver, B.C.. No pandemic restrictions, a flurry of events and people eager to meet up for all the picnics, parties, and beach days forgone in the past couple of summers.
Mother Nature, however, has had other ideas. Vancouver has seen just a few scattered handfuls of hot, sunny, clear-sky days so far, and people are feeling more than a little down.
TikTok user @_gabrielgabriel__ posted a video in early July that perfectly encapsulates the vibe of this summer in Vancouver (well, most of the time).
The 10-second clip shows lifeguards watching over an empty beach, with grey, overcast skies. The kicker, though, is the choice of music: Air's moody "Playground Love." The French duo's dreamy downtempo space pop really sets the tone.
Commenters on the video totally relate. "That one weekend was great. Oh well. Onward to fall," says one.
How much more of this melancholy will we have to endure? Back in early June, Environment Canada warned us we'd have a cooler start to summer in Metro Vancouver. Boy, were they right!
