The patio of Black + Blue, a restaurant on Alberni Street in Vancouver, was damaged when a stolen Porsche was driven through it during a police chase on March 9, 2025.

A dramatic incident unfolded in downtown Vancouver this weekend after police officers attempted to stop the driver of a stolen Porsche Cayenne.

The incident started around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), when officers tried to stop the motorist.

As the driver fled the scene, they drove through Black+Blue's patio on Alberni Street.

Video of the scene taken after the incident shows pieces of the patio scattered in the street and on the sidewalk.

The driver of the SUV also struck parked vehicles, including police cars, according to the VPD.

While the driver fled the scene, they were spotted in the Downtown Eastside later in the day.

The driver and a passenger were arrested by police.

"The suspect fled in the stolen Porsche and was apprehended inside the vehicle," Sgt. Steve Addison tells V.I.A. "The beanbag shotgun was deployed during the arrest. There were no serious injuries as a result of the arrest."

No injuries were been reported on Alberni Street, either.

The suspect remains in custody, though no charges have been announced by police.

Addison says he doesn't have any information about the passenger.

Glowbal Restaurant Group posted a video of the destruction caused by the stolen Porsche, noting the patio is "getting a tune up, but we're still open."

The restaurant group's director of operations, Patrick Austin, says the company is still assessing the damage and looking at what needs to be done to reopen the patio.

"Initial quotes to rebuild the patio are coming in over $100,000," he tells V.I.A. Originally it cost between $50,000 and $75,000 to build out over two years.
