A suspect in the assault of a beloved Chinatown security guard has been arrested and charged following a police investigation.
The 64-year-old security guard, well-known within the Chinatown community, was assaulted around 11 a.m. on Friday (August 12) while making his rounds near East Pender and Columbia streets.
Vancouver Police Department (VPD) investigators believe that he was taking pictures when someone attacked him. Bystanders intervened to stop the assault and witnesses called police but the attacker fled before police arrived.
A suspect, 44-year-old Kevin Aaron Hibbard, was located and arrested later that day in Gastown and charged with assault.
