I'll try my best not to write this like a news story (we're not a news site), but shortly before 1pm this afternoon the Vancouver PD's Marine Unit were called to a fire in False Creek, a stone's throw from Science World. They're investigating the cause of the fire now.
A sailboat getting destroyed by fire is certainly not awesome news but 2 things here are:
1. Despite not having immediate support from the Coast Guard (like they should) the VPD seems to have handled this quickly and efficiently.
2. Generally the only fuel on board a sailboat would be for a small outboard motor, so we likely won't see another spill in our water as a result of the fire.
3. The VPD Marine Unit are kinda killing it as they posted photos from what appears to be a police boat onto Twitter not long after they put the fire out.
