Vancouver Police are investigating the city’s eighth homicide of the year, which occurred last night in South Vancouver.
Police responded to calls of shots fired across from River Front Park near Kent Avenue and Kerr Street around 10 p.m. on June 4. Alvis Anjesh Singh, 44, was found deceased in his vehicle in the area. Investigators believe the suspect’s vehicle, a silver SUV with a sunroof, drove east on Kent Avenue after the shots were heard. Police are looking for the three people who were seen inside that vehicle.
Minutes later, a burnt-out SUV was found by Sexsmith Elementary School near West 59th Avenue and Ontario Street. The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but investigators believe the burnt-out vehicle is connected to the homicide.
No arrests have been made at this time.
The VPD is asking that anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area of Langara Golf Course and Sexsmith Elementary School on June 4 between 9 and 11 p.m. to call VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The incident appears to follow a similar pattern of gang-related killings in Metro Vancouver where getaway vehicles are found torched shortly after shootings occur.
Police have not yet said whether Friday's homicide was gang-related.
