Several large-scale events will affect traffic in Stanley Park in September.

For those travelling by cars, trucks, vans, or other vehicles in Stanley Park, several "large-scale events" planned for the popular park will impede traffic throughout September.

In light of the upcoming events, the City of Vancouver is cautioning drivers to plan for closed parking lots, road closures, and detours.

The first event is the Vancouver Triathlon, taking place this weekend.

The competition will take place on Monday, Sept. 2, blocking all the roads in the park from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Georgia Street entrance to the park will close a half-hour earlier, at 6 a.m.

However, pedestrians and cyclists will have access to the seawall throughout the event.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, the removal of a totem pole will mean the parking lot next to the Brockton Totem Poles will be closed for the day. It may open up earlier, depending on when the work is done.

Next weekend the RBC GranFondo will see cyclists cycle the Sea-to-Sky highway on Saturday, Sept. 7. With all the bikes leaving the park around 7 a.m., there will be several notable street closures.

In Stanley Park from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Avison Way, Pipeline Road, and Stanley Park Drive will be shut down completely.

More significantly, the northbound lane of the Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge will be closed at the same time, meaning those headed to North Vancouver early on Saturday morning will need to use the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge.

On Sunday, Sept. 8, the Rose Garden Lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. for the commemoration of the Battle of Britain, which will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. at the Air Force Garden in Stanley Park.

"This is an annual commemorative ceremony and parade to honour Canadian and other allied airmen who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Britain and other major air campaigns. The event also honours those RCAF personnel who gave their lives in crashes after the war," reads an event page for the ceremony.

The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival is the last of the major events (currently) booked in Stanley Park this month, and it'll mostly affect parking in the park.

It'll affect traffic for a full week from Sept. 10 to 17, taking over the Brockton Totem Pole lot that entire time.

During the actual event, from Friday, Sept. 13 to Sunday, Sept. 15, the Upper Cricket Field parking lot will be closed, along with parking stalls adjacent to the closed Brockton Totem Pole lot.
