The Canucks are doing well on the ice this season, and their off-ice performance is keeping up.
For example, a Saturday Night Live-style intro was made this season and shared this weekend by in-game announcer Al Murdoch on TikTok.
The clip is a note-perfect parody of the long-time comedy skit show's introduction, complete with jazzy saxophone and Murdoch pulling off his own Don Pardo impression. Oddly, there are almost no references to hockey in the skit.
While not every player is part of the video, a dozen of the team's stars and mainstays are in it (or featured).
Among those included is Anthony Beauvillier hitting up a bakery, Phillip Di Giuseppe on the Granville Strip (with a The Rock-like eyebrow), and Carson Soucy looking like the musical guest (which really should have been Rick Tocchet with a retro microphone and acoustic guitar).
The highlights are clear, though. Near the end, Andrei Kuzmenko, in Miami Vice-esque garb, is in what looks like a tropical pool hall taking a call on his banana.
Then there is captain Quinn Hughes, who goes full Zack Morris with a jean jacket, a massive cell phone that's probably older than he is, and a point-to-camera worthy of the cheesiest 90s sitcom. That said, it appears he's in a kitchen showroom-turned-sports cave.
@almurdoch Paying homage to Saturday Night Live the @Canucks production team created a fun piece to run during Saturday night games at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
