One of Vancouver's most vibrant events is closing down operations.

The Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) has announced it's closing down.

"After 9 incredible years of transforming walls into works of art, we’re officially closing the chapter on Vancouver Mural Festival," reads an announcement on the organization's social media channels.

The non-arts organization points to financial issues as the main issue.

"Despite our best efforts and significant progress to stabilize the organization, it is no longer viable for us to continue," reads the statement.

VMF formed in 2016 with the goal of changing how art is viewed in Vancouver. Along with its annual festival, it organized smaller events and art year-round.

"To date, VMF has created over 400 murals and continues to reimagine public art and events across Metro Vancouver," reads the VMF website.

The announcement has been met with disappointment from locals and members of the arts community in the region.
