Vancouver has lost one of its Chinese restaurants.
Old Beijing Roast Duck on West Broadway has shuttered, according to a notice on its door; the notice isn't from the restaurant though, it's from the landlord terminating the restaurant's lease.
The restaurant opened in 2017 at 1643 W Broadway, near the intersection with Fir Street, following the closure of Maurya Indian Cuisine. It specialized in traditional Chinese cuisine with a focus on duck, including noodle dishes and soups. It also carried a broad variety of seafood dishes.
The shuttered restaurant is next door to the former Storm Crow Alehouse, which itself is about to enter a new chapter as a Canadian pub chain is moving into that location.
It's unclear when exactly Old Beijing Roast Duck closed. The date on the notice says it was issued April 12 and the tenant had until April 21 to remove their property. The restaurant's website is no longer active, and its Instagram account hasn't seen a post in two years.
Pages on Skip the Dishes and Doordash still exist, but say the restaurant is currently closed.
The statement on the door also notes the landlord intends to recover back rent, legal costs, and restoring the property.
