In South Vancouver there's a building at the intersection of Manitoba Street and West 68th Avenue that seems a little out of place.
Several signs on the outside of the building identify it as "Animal Control Northwest Seattle Division."
While Vancouver is indeed northwest of Seattle, calling it Northwest Seattle is somewhere between rude and a bizarrely low-key international invasion.
In fact, it's not a case of local animal authorities extending their jurisdiction nearly 200 km, but actually a sign from something much more common: Vancouver playing the role of somewhere else.
Animal Control is a TV show on Fox TV starring Joel McHale (Community); it was shooting in Vancouver over the fall and winter months. In fact, McHale has a wild story about trying to get from Vancouver to Seattle while on a break from the show during the holidays.
The building at 8275 Manitoba St played the exterior of the building. After shooting ended, the art and signs stayed up, perhaps with the hope the show would get a second season and they could reuse it.
And in May it got renewed.
