The VPD is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage to aid the investigation of an assault that happened Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 at about 7:50 p.m. on the street near the Oakridge Canada Line stop.

Authorities in Vancouver say a woman was assaulted while walking near a transit station Sunday night, and are hoping potential witnesses can come forward to aid the investigation.

The incident took place at about 7:50 p.m. on October 6 near the Oakridge Canada Line station when a woman in her thirties was walking near West 41st Avenue and Ontario Street, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The woman was grabbed from behind by the suspect in what the VPD describes as a "violent assault." She was able to fight off the perpetrator, who fled.

The suspect was last seen heading south on Ontario Street near West 40th Avenue. He is described as having a dark complexion and appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s, the VPD describes.

He was approximately 5’3” and 170 pounds, with a slim build. He was wearing a loose-fitting black hoodie with the hood up and slim-fitting grey pants at the time of the attack.

The VPD is now asking anyone who saw the incident or who may have dash-cam footage of the area bounded by Main Street to Cambie Street, and from West 41st Avenue to West 37th Avenue during the time of the assault to contact the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0600.
