A 78-year-old woman died Tuesday (July 26) night after being struck by a vehicle, marking the city's seventh pedestrian fatality of the year.
According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the woman was crossing Beach Avenue on Broughton Street when she was struck by a white Nissan SUV in the middle of the street just before 8 p.m. She was taken to hospital where she passed away from her injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old man, was arrested and has since been released on a future court date.
Vancouver police are investigating the incident and believe that driver impairment was a factor in the collision.
Anyone who was witness to the incident or who has dash-came video between 7:30 and 8 p.m. on July 26 is asked to call VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
