TORONTO — Strength in technology and telecom stocks helped lift Canada's main stock index in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 74.47 points at 25,637.58.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 162.46 points at 44,531.02. The S&P 500 index was up 39.10 points at 6,091.07, while the Nasdaq composite was up 198.33 points at 19,848.28.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.33 cents US compared with 69.94 cents US on Wednesday.
The March crude oil contract was down 25 cents at US$71.12 per barrel and the March natural gas contract was up 19 cents at US$3.75 per mmBTU.
The April gold contract was up US$19.70 at US$2,948.40 an ounce and the March copper contract was up six cents at US$4.77 a pound.
