Canadian women score comfortable win over Brazil in T20 World Cup qualifying play

BUENOS AIRES — Canada rebounded from a painful one-run loss to Argentina to defeat Brazil by seven wickets Thursday at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Americas Region Qualifier.

The Canadian women improved to 2-1-0 at the four-team tournament that will send one side on to represent the region in the final stage of qualification, the 10-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2026.

Canada defeated the U.S. by nine runs in its opening match Monday before being edged out by host Argentina on Tuesday.

Brazil won the toss Thursday and elected to bat at St. Albans Club. Canada bowler Terisa Lavia, named player of the match, took three wickets as Brazil was all out for 56 in 17.1 overs.

Opener Habeeba Bader led the Canadian batting attack with 41 not out with Vandana Mahajan not out at 10 as Canada finished at 58 for three, reaching the victory target in 13.3 overs.

The Canadians face Argentina on Friday.
