Opinion: Steve Moore apparently didn't deserve 'a dime' for the Todd Bertuzzi hit

Our readers can't seem to get enough about the story of Todd Bertuzzi ending the career of Steve Moore exactly 16 years, 10 months, and 28 days ago today.

Some of our readers can't seem to get enough about the story of Todd Bertuzzi ending the career of Steve Moore exactly 16 years, 10 months, and 28 days ago today.

This week, one of our most-read pieces was a letter from a reader who argued that Moore faked his career-ending injury which resulted in him receiving a settlement in 2014, and that it was all a money grab.

That letter followed my writing that Bertuzzi is one of the "most-hated Canucks of all time," an article that was read tens of thousands of times, partly because it was shared by apologist fans who wanted to point out how stupid they thought it was.

As you can imagine, the letter we published this week was not the only piece of feedback I received after writing that piece.

I was hoping that was going to be the last thing we published about the event that happened on March 8, 2004 and its aftermath, but after a peer reached out to me with an in-depth opinion I figured you'd want to read it.

That peer is Mike Usinger from the Georgia Straight. He penned a piece the Georgia Straight back in 2014, right after the settlement was announced. In it he argues that Steve Moore "didn't deserve a dime" for the hit by Bertuzzi.

He goes on to say that it's all about justice and the "unwritten rules of the game," that "Moore got exactly what he asked for," and that it's part of what you sign up for when you play hockey in the NHL.

Of the hit, he expresses the opinion that "They happen all the time, always have, and always will."

If you hate me for writing that Bertuzzi is hated, you're going to love Mike's piece. You can read the full thing on the Straight's website.
