MONTREAL — Actress Kim Yaroshevskaya, who brightened the lives of generations of Quebec children, has died at the age of 101.
She was born in Moscow and arrived in Montreal at age 10 before embarking on a long career on both stage and screen.
Yaroshevskaya may be best known as the storytelling Fanfreluche doll on Radio-Canada television in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
A few years later, she enthralled a new generation of children in the Grandmother role on the cult show Passe-Partout.
Quebec's Union des artistes paid tribute to her on its Facebook page, noting how she touched young people's lives and interpreted the works of writers ranging from Fyodor Dostoyevsky to Tennessee Williams, Anton Chekhov and Albert Camus.
News of her death on Sunday was reported by Radio-Canada and the newspaper Le Devoir, which quoted relatives.
