Adorable B.C. cafe and apartment building selling for the same price as a Vancouver house

The 97-year-old building houses a popular Island cafe

An adorable apartment building with a café on Vancouver Island has hit the B.C. real estate market and it costs about the same as a (nice) single-family house in Metro Vancouver.

The building is in downtown Chemainus, a town south of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. The 97-year-old building has hit the market with four apartments and the Willow Street Cafe, a popular stop in the community for coffee, sandwiches, and baked goods.

And it's selling for $2.35 million, or about the same as the average detached house in the city of Vancouver.

Photos of the location show a charming yellow building with a patio standing within sight of the ocean. Inside it appears the four apartments are moderately sized units. One is currently occupied by the owners.

The neighbourhood and the cafe were used for scenes in a Hallmark film recently, called The Baker's Son.

The nearly century-old building started as the town's Masonic Hall and has served as Chemainus' post office, among other things, in its storied past.

Posts by the real estate agents indicate both the property and business are for sale.
