For anyone who's saved up enough to buy a house in Vancouver but is tired of the city life, there's something that's the exact opposite currently on B.C.'s real estate market.
Flynn's Cove Resort is a remote wilderness retreat that's about as far west as one can go in Canada. Located on Nootka Island off the west coast of Vancouver Island, it's on the market for $3.5 million.
While it's remote and off-the-grid, it's not wildly difficult to get to, as boats can be hired in the Vancouver Island towns of Tahsis or Zeballos to get out to Flynn's Cove, though anyone buying the resort would like want to invest in their own boat. Local airline Nootka Air also lands at the Flynn's Cove dock.
People visiting the resort often explore Esprenza Inlet and the area by kayak or fish. Locals include sea lions, bears and whales.
The property itself comes with a main house with four cabins nearby (each sleep at least four). The property also has access to (and 1,700 feet of lakefront property on) Owossitsa Lake, which has its own islands for exploring and offers a second place for planes to land.
Along with the accommodation, there are a few workshops and sheds to help keep the place in shape.
The whole place is self-reliant with its own electric, sewer and water systems.
For the same cost as Flynn's Cove, there are several homes available in Vancouver, including a townhouse in Yaletown, a 4-bedroom house in West Point Grey, or a tear-down in Dunbar.
