Remote B.C. lodge selling for 1/3 the price of a Vancouver house

It's located on a massive lake.

For those daydreaming of a place far, far from the city, there are lots of options in Canada. It's a very big country.

One such place is the recently listed Nechako Lodge; the property hit the market for $695,000. In Vancouver, that'd get a 1,000 square-foot East Van townhouse or part of an average house (which is selling for about $2.6 million right now).

In the Nechako Reservoir area, west of Prince George, $695,000 gets you a six-bedroom guest lodge, four cabins, a residence, a huge detached workshop, and 10 acres of land on Knewstubb Lake (an arm of the reservoir that used to be its own lake).

Inside the lodge, there's a dining room, a commercial kitchen, office space, and a meeting room.

The lodge has few human neighbours (the nearest notable human structure appears to be the massive Kenney Dam), but plenty of wild ones, as it's located about an hour-and-a-half (according to Google Maps) from the villages of Fort Fraser, Fraser Lake, and Vanderhoof (which collectively have fewer than 8,000 residents).

The property is currently being operated as a recreational wilderness lodge, offering fishing, hiking, and boating to guests. A Swiss-Canadian family have been running it since the 1980s, upgrading it over the years to be more sustainable (including huge solar panels and wind generators).
