Women’s health is on the path to a brighter, healthier future. Although just 6% of Canada’s health research funding is currently dedicated to women’s health, momentum is building to create meaningful change and real solutions. Conditions like endometriosis, cervical cancer and menopause-related symptoms affect millions, but with the right focus and support, a powerful difference can be made.
The BC Women's Health Foundation (BCWHF) is leading the way in prioritizing women’s health research and healthcare solutions. Throughout March, BCWHF is celebrating Women’s Health Research Month (WHRM), highlighting the importance of progress and innovation in women’s health. Together, we have the opportunity to make lasting change and improve the lives of women across the country.
Driving innovation for women and newborns
BC Women’s Health Foundation, the largest non-profit in British Columbia dedicated to women’s and newborn health, is committed to supporting the advancement of research that leads to life-changing medical breakthroughs. BCWHF primarily supports and raises funds for initiatives at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre (BCWH), striving to improve women’s health care access and research within the province.
Research is where health innovations begin. It’s how we’ll bring an end to cervical cancer, offer relief from endometriosis pain, improve outcomes for premature babies and ease the symptoms of menopause. By funding critical studies, the BC Women’s Health Foundation can help close the gender gap in healthcare and ensure women receive equitable access to high-quality care.
To kick off Women’s Health Research Month, BCWHF hosted its 24th annual Illuminations Luncheon presented by RBC Wealth Management at Westin Bayshore Vancouver on February 28. Illuminations Luncheon is dedicated to advancing women’s health through research and partnership with the Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI).
This sold-out signature event brought together community, corporate, government and medical research leaders to support and be informed by extraordinary women’s health researchers. Guests heard from keynote speaker Dr. Maryam Zeineddin, president of BC Family Doctors, plus a panel of experts on the latest research happening today and, with your support, in the future.
Thanks to overwhelming community support, the event raised over $540,000, to directly fund high-impact women’s health research. This milestone is just the beginning. Their goal is to create lasting change that benefits women and newborns for generations to come.
