RealTours show finds out why Port Moody is Vancouver's coolest suburb

Get the ultimate guide to Port Moody and Coquitlam West from REW.

In this episode of RealTours from REW, it’s the ultimate guide to Port Moody and Coquitlam West as host Stephen Tadgh paddles down the Burrard Inlet and learns how this former sawmill town at the “end of the west” became a sought-after destination for families from across B.C.

Now home to a diverse array of communities, people and amenities, Port Moody is known for its many recreational opportunities, like Rocky Point Park, the annual Golden Spike Days and Brewers Row. Dubbed “City of the Arts” in 2004, there’s a creative spirit in town, fostered by institutions like the PoMo Arts Centre which has programs for adults and children alike.

The city is 25 minutes from Vancouver via West Coast Express and 45 minutes via SkyTrain, making it ideal for commuters and its central location in the Lower Mainland means many people seek to move there. As a result, a wide variety of housing options exist, including detached homes, townhouses, condos and duplexes.

Port Moody and the Tri-Cities are a highly desirable area for families in Metro Vancouver, and that means of the three cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody), “All of our clients who have purchased a home have been happy with the area,” according to Carolyn Pogue, a RealTours cast member and Personal Real Estate Corporation at Royal LePage Sterling Realty.

Listings hover around 250 to 300 per month, and prices are at a median of around $1.5 million, though this depends on the type of property. In the future, the city expects to add more density and properties like Söenhaus by Marcon in Coquitlam West, just outside Port Moody, are bringing sophisticated amenities and architectural features to the Tri-Cities area. “I like the whole vibe and feeling and architecture of that development a lot. It’s very peaceful, zen. It’s just rather different than what you see a lot of times out there,” says cast member Trystan King, Personal Real Estate Corporation at Stonehaus Realty.
