Downtown Vancouver is transforming into a winter wonderland!
With festive lights, live entertainment, and a brand-new twist: a full-sized ferris wheel offering spectacular views of B.C.’s tallest Christmas tree, Destination Downtown promises to add a touch of magic to Vancouver’s holiday season.
This family-friendly festival aims to create a space for residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the spirit of the season. With enchanting light displays and a lineup of captivating performers, downtown Vancouver might just remind you why the holidays are the most wonderful time of year.
Festive lights and ferris wheel rides at the Vancouver Art Gallery
One of the most exciting additions to this year’s festivities is the full-sized ferris wheel, located at the public plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery. From Dec. 1-24, guests can hop on for a ride for just $7, taking in 360-degree views of the downtown lights and the massive 76-foot Christmas tree standing tall in front of the Gallery’s festively decorated facade—perfect for both the young and the young-at-heart.
On Tuesdays, you can even ride for free! Presented by Downtown Van, riders can enjoy Ride Free Tuesday on Dec. 10 and 17.
Explore light displays and performances along the waterfront
The holiday excitement doesn’t stop there – larger lighting installations, including over 100+ lit trees and larger-than-life animal-themed lighting installations, will be scattered along the scenic walk from Canada Place to Cardero Park in Coal Harbour. This illuminated route, just a short stroll from the Vancouver Art Gallery, offers visitors a glowing pathway to explore Vancouver’s waterfront with a special holiday twist.
Performances will add to the atmosphere, taking place Thursday through Sunday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m, until Dec. 22. Expect to encounter live bands, artists, opera singers, and even fire performers. These activations create the perfect opportunity for families, couples, and friends to share in a memorable experience while enjoying their regularly scheduled holiday shopping and dining in the downtown core.
A cozy escape: Snow globe dome and hot chocolate at Harbour Green Park
For those looking to warm up, Destination Downtown is also offering a cozy “snow globe” dome at Harbour Green Park. This intimate space seats 25 guests and features live performances by local musicians, along with a hot chocolate stand—perfect for warming up and soaking in the festive atmosphere.
With so much to see and do, Destination Downtown encourages visitors to explore more of the city’s holiday offerings nearby. Jack Poole Plaza will host the Vancouver Christmas Market from Nov. 13 to Dec. 21, complete with artisan vendors and holiday treats. Also along the waterfront, check out Soar With Santa at Flyover for an immersive ride over the North Pole, and admire the window and tree displays Christmas at Canada Place. Additionally, St. Paul’s Lights of Hope will be lighting up for its 25th year.
As the heart of Vancouver lights up, Destination Downtown offers a chance to connect with friends, family, and the community through shared experiences of light, music, and holiday spirit. There’s always something new just around the corner, and during the festivities, a bright light to guide your way.
