While the average person may look at a computer or a chair as simply a means to an end, Kobchai "Chai" Phadoemchit views those same items as a commitment.
A commitment to being on time and on budget, a promise to be respectful and a pledge to doing the job right the first time, every time.
It’s a personal ethos that now extends across his entire team at BBX Moving, Metro Vancouver’s premier one-stop solution for professional residential and commercial moving.
“Someone could look at one of our employees and ask themselves, ‘Why am I paying someone to move a chair when I can do it myself?’ The difference is that our guys have carried many chairs and at the end of the day, that chair won’t break,” says Chai, director of BBX Moving.
BBX’s full suite of services extends across moving, box rentals, packing, installation of furniture, fixtures and equipment, storage, project management and disposal/recycling services.
The thoughtful integration of all those disparate areas is perhaps BBX’s biggest ace on the hole.
Once clients sign a contract, the project management side of his team shines – everything from dates and times, to security, elevator access, parking and vehicle needs are immediately addressed up front to avoid surprises or delays.
Timelines are then established and the move is planned in phases such that the business can focus on its day-to-day, thus minimizing downtime.
“It’s about being solutions-oriented as opposed to bringing up problems as they occur,” Chai says. “No one cares about the problem, people care about the results that come from solving the problem.”
Chai’s ascent in the moving industry was initially a slow burn, having operated a BungoBox franchise at first before realizing how he could scale up exponentially.
Because he worked with movers so often in those formative years, Chai saw the considerable gaps and shortcomings across the industry.
“A lot of moving companies will just do the basics around moving your stuff, but they wouldn’t do the handyman work like furniture installation or mounting a TV,” he says. “But that’s exactly what clients need – an end to end solution so they can get back to living their best life.”
To that end, BBX Moving’s pledge to commercial clients in particular is this: when you leave work on Friday, the BBX team will execute the move so that when their staff arrives at the new office on Monday morning, they only have to turn on their computers to get back to work.
BBX’s purpose is to “Deliver Peace of Mind”, a personal mantra that’s largely driven by Chai’s upbringing in both Thailand and Singapore, where he served two years of military service. This experience ingrained in him a deference for service and an expectation of always getting the job done right—simply because that's who you are.
“It’s something that I really instill in our team – we refer to our clients as sir, ma’am, Mr. or Mrs.,” he says. “When you’re at work, you’re in the service of others, first of all as colleagues. Then together, we’re in service of our clients.”
