Riding around the city on the seawall or one of the numerous cycling routes in the metro area is fun, of course. The Richmond dykes are also very scenic and though a non-paved gravel trail, it's flat all the way up and down the coast. Short of getting yourself a bike with crazy shocks and hitting the bumper trails, a trail like the Seymour Valley Trailway is a great balance of being out of the city, in the sticks but still being able ride a paved route (though you can extend your ride on some unpaved trails) that isn't flat all the way but has some hills to make you give it hard in spots.
Located about 5 minutes north of Capilano College, located within the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve just over the Second Narrows bridge in North Van, it's also very close from the heart of the city. I think it's about 14km one way so about a 28km total ride which takes about a couple hours. After wanting a change of scenery from riding around the city everywhere, from East Van to the Westside, around downtown, down the Kent route, south of Marine Drive to Richmond over the Canada Line bridge, this is a great find courtesy of my English buddy turned Lower Mainland outdoor expert, Jones.
