Since 2008 the Vancouver Canadians' baseball franchise's sushi mascots have been entertaining the crowds with a race during the 4th inning of every home game. Despite the layer that this added to the (super fun) experience of attending a game it always felt like there was something missing. Ms BC Roll, Mr Kappa Maki and the sinister Chef Wasabi are an entertaining bunch but the Sushi Races have always felt... well... maybe just a little dry.
I'm extremely happy to report the news that a BRAND NEW sushi mascot is going to be introduced to juice things up a bit. Meet SADAHARU SOY!
Named after baseball's all-time home run leader, Nippon Professional Baseball player Sadaharu Oh, this dude is looking forward to delighting fans and winning races this summer... just like he did last night at the Strike Out Heart Disease charity softball game that I played in, and which my team won! We raised awareness and funds to support cardiac research and patient care at the provincial Heart Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital... and we had a lot of fun doing it.
