BC Ferries will start accepting debit payment at its ticket booths this month.

Tap-and-pay capability for both debit and credit cards will be available once new PIN pads are installed, BC Ferries announced Monday.

Debit will be avialable at both vehicle and foot passenger ticket booths.

Passengers have been able to use credit cards but not debit cards at ticketing areas, and they have been asking for the ability to use debit, BC Ferries said in a press release.

New PIN pads are already being installed and the project is expected to be finished by spring.

Smaller terminals are receiving the new PIN pads first. Terminals serving the major routes between Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver will get theirs toward the end of this month.
