You're not crazy if it seems like SkyTrain platforms, Canada Line trains, and your regular bus route are packed with more riders than before. TransLink has just released new data that shows ridership is at near-record highs.
In fact, September 2017 saw 36-million transit boardings, a figure only bested by ridership during February 2010 when Vancouver hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
All modes of transit saw increases, with the exception of the West Coast Express.

Another key stat right now from TransLink is that average weekday boardings for the Evergreen Extension have grown to 34,000 per weekday, which reflects a 13 per cent increase over the newest SkyTrain line's pre-summer levels.

TransLink points to multiple factors when it comes to these bigger numbers, including high fuel costs and stable transit ticket prices. Additionally, TransLink says more service thanks to improvements funded through the 10-Year Vision.
Recently, TransLink revealed the 50+ regional small-scale projects they would be allocating funds for, which include things like widened sidewalks, bike lanes, and road improvements. TransLink is the only public transit agency in North America to also handle regional non-transit infrastructure projects.
