Canada's largest airlines have massive sales on international flights through the spring, summer, and early fall.
Air Canada has slashed prices on flights to Europe and Japan and WestJet has a discount on base fares to cities across the United States and popular sun destinations.
Many discounted routes include flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to popular destinations in Hawaii, Mexico, France, the Caribbean, California, and more.
Air Canada
Canada's flag carrier is selling flights to Europe at a reduced price for travel between April 16 and Dec. 10 as part of its Smile Your Way to Europe sale.
Destinations featured in the sale include Rome, Athens, Lisbon, Paris, and many other highly-coveted destination cities.
To take advantage of the low-cost offers, tickets must be booked by April 17.
Some low-cost options from Vancouver include direct flights. For instance, a direct, round-trip flight from YVR to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) from May 22 to 29 costs $1,033 including tax (see slide two).
Air Canada has also lowered prices on trips to the Land of the Rising Sun.
Travellers save on select base fares to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan for travel between April 12 and Dec. 15.
To take advantage of the low-cost flights, tickets must be booked by April 22.
A direct, round-trip flight from YVR to Tokyo's Narita International Airport (NRT) from Nov. 7 to 14 costs $1,676 including tax. Similarly, trips from YVR to Osaka start at just over $1,850 (see slide three).
WestJet
WestJet doesn't have any offers outside of North or Central America. Still, the airline has reduced the cost of travel from YVR to the U.S. or key sun destinations.
The Sun, Sand, & Savings sale includes 15 per cent off select base fares to destinations in the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America for travel between April 15 and Dec. 15.
The following blackout dates apply: May 15-20, June 27-30; July 1 and 31; Aug. 1-5 and 28-31; Sept. 1-3 and 26-30; and Oct. 1 and 10-14.
To take advantage of the low-cost offers, tickets must be booked by April 17 at 10:59 p.m. using the discount code 3V8Y3JH.
WestJet's built-in price calendar is a handy tool for travellers looking to nab the best deal. You can scroll through it to see which dates feature the yellow ticket, indicating a sale price point.
For example, flights from YVR to Honolulu have dates with $184 prices next to them throughout November, whereas October only has a couple at the end of the month (see slide four).
Flights from YVR to Los Angeles are cheaper on a couple of select dates in May and June, with prices starting at $157 (see slide five).
