Locals looking to save some cash on plane tickets to one of the world's most breathtaking destinations should book their tickets early.
Aside from its striking natural beauty, Vietnam offers an intriguing culture, fascinating history, delectable cuisine, and much more; mouth-watering bowls of pho can cost as little as $2. While it has places that are ideal for quiet contemplation, the cities buzz with energy. There are numerous places to shop and travellers can get tailor-made suits and dresses for very little.
Prices to Vietnam's Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City typically cost thousands of dollars from Vancouver International Airport (YVR), with average ticket prices setting jet setters back anywhere back between $2,350 and $3,650, according to Google Flights.
A quick scroll through Google Flights' price calendar shows most prices climbing over $2,000 for round-trip airfare and there are no dates available for 2023 that show prices under $1,200.
But thrifty air travellers can shave several hundred dollars off the cost of a return flight if they book their ticket for next year now.
For example, a flight that departs from YVR on April 10 and returns about a week later from SGN on April 18 costs $994 including all taxes and fees. The flight has one stop in Manila, Philippines in either direction, which are both overnights. Some people enjoy the stopover in the Philippines, and you could even add an extra day or two for the same price (two destinations for the price of one).
If you aren't keen on a long stopover, there are several other options for only marginally more that are significantly shorter.
