Many Canadians are ready to return to their pre-pandemic, globetrotting lifestyles, despite some risks involved with travel. But the majority of them are less excited to do so than they were before the pandemic.
For locals looking to stay local this year, there are a plethora of economic choices for travel within the province.
Hipcamp, an online platform sharing camp space, launched in Canada in June 2021. It is the world’s largest provider of outdoor stays, offering everything from RV parks to unique accommodations on private lands to luxurious glamping experiences and more.
Hipcamp hosts can leave reviews for campers in the same way campers leave reviews for hosts. When hosts leave a review for a camper, the reviews can be seen on the Hipcamper's profile page under "Reviews."

Spring break getaways in B.C.
Sunshine Coast Green Zone Campsite
Located in between Mt Elphinstone and the Pacific Ocean, this family property is home to several activities. The hosts say they have been developing the Sunshine Zone Green Zone Campsite for over 40 years to make it "a peaceful, sustainable setting to relax and focus on the important things in life."
The site is surrounded by forest, "giving you the feeling of being on your own in the wilderness." There are multiple flat tent locations and a gathering area with a propane fire pit, a covered kitchen stocked with "some of the basics," and a covered storage area for bikes.
You will be within walking distance of a local food truck, Sunday Cider and what is described as "a secret" beach access. The site is just a 10-minute drive from the Langdale Ferry Terminal.
Canadian Rockies Retreat

Described as a remote "one-of-a-kind opportunity" nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, the Canadian Rockies Retreat offers a couple of different listings. There is an off-grid cabin or a tent site with three different campsites available.
Campers have access to a creek, three waterfalls and the surrounding forest. According to the host, the Blaeberry River offers "gentler rafting and paddling opportunities." You can also go fishing, paddling or biking or go on guided SUP, kayak and canoe tours nearby.
Shawl Organic Farms
Located centrally and bordering the North bank of the Cowichan River, this farm "occupies ridge land that falls Northward to a shaded tree-lined creek that makes up more than [five] acres," explains the listing for the Shawl Organic Farm.
For wildlife aficionados, the natural greenbelt sees a fair share of white-tailed deer, Roosevelt elk, and other wildlife, according to the host.
There are game trails that you can hike down to a creek or you can head out for a swin in Cowichan River. You can also explore the property and see the organic vegetable plots, visit animals, and take a guided tour to catch sight of the resident Roosevelt elk-herd.
You can also tour the beautiful Cowichan Valley's many farms and vineyards by bicycle.
There are three listings available: a tent site, a tipi, and a school bus.
Pacific Ranch
Pacific Ranch is located on a picturesque hillside property on Vancouver Island's west coast. Campers will enjoy jaw-dropping views and peaceful walks in the forest along a gentle stream.
"Driving in along the winding and steep driveway, you will arrive on our unique property and find rocky, moss-covered bluffs, and fern-carpeted forests. Across these settings are two private campsites for one to choose from," explain the hosts.
You can walk along the Galloping Goose Trail, visit one of the many local beaches, and go bike riding or hiking at trails right off of the ranch. You can also visit local villages nearby or go to a local lake for swimming.
You need to bring your own tent or camper (the hosts can accommodate vehicles under 26 feet with a water hookup available).
Campfires are permitted as long as there is no fire ban and pets are welcome.
Magnolia Cottage Big Foot B&B
Described by the hosts as "paradise on the mighty Fraser River," the Magnolia Cottage Big Foot B&B is surrounded by woodland with 160 feet of waterfront view.
As you watch the river flow, you can see an array of local wildlife including bear, deer, eagles, and otters.
"Enjoy the peacefulness of the woods and wake up to the birds singing around you. This is Glamping at its finest!"
The cabin is located at Emory Creek Provincial Park, Coquihalla River Provincial Park.
