Packages to Mexico via WestJet's low-cost carrier offer one of the best deals out of the Lower Mainland.
On par with Sunwing's jaw-dropping deals to Las Vegas from Vancouver, Swoop packages to Puerto Vallarta from Abbotsford include hotel and accommodation and cost under $100 per day for trips that are a week long.
With the accommodation search powered by Expedia, booking the hotel with the flight saves travellers up to 50 per cent off the cost of their hotel.
On June 9, WestJet said it will be winding down Swoop's operations, citing fierce market competition. Existing Swoop flights and packages won't be affected by the announcement and customers may continue to book tickets. Swoop does not have any bookable flights beyond October 28, as the carrier hasn't published a schedule beyond that date.
Flights only depart from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) to Puerto Vallarta on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but there are plenty of low-cost options in September.
For example, a package that departs YXX on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and returns from PVR one week later on Wednesday, Sept. 20 costs $559.79 including all taxes and fess staying at the Blue Pepper Beds Sayulita, which is a hostel. However, a hotel option costs only slightly more, at $614.
Travellers can opt for shorter stays in Mexico but the per diem value isn't as good. A package from Wednesday, Sept. 20 to Saturday, Sept 23 costs $476 including all taxes and fees at the same hostel.
There are also several other hotel options that are only a couple of hundred dollars more and offer stays at higher-rated properties.
